How Merchant Onboarding Works

Getting started as a merchant with Surfboard Payments is designed to be simple, secure, and fully digital. The onboarding process ensures that your business is verified in line with regulatory requirements and that payouts can be made to your bank account without delay.

Step 1. Start your application

To begin, enter your company name and email address. A unique application link will then be sent to your email to continue the process.

Step 2. Provide company and ownership details

You will be asked to share key information about your business:

  • Who the authorized signatories are

  • What products or services you sell

This step ensures that contracts are signed by the correct representatives and that we understand how your business intends to use Surfboard Payments’ services.

Step 3. Share store information and expected volumes

Next, we ask for details about your sales environment:

  • Store location and opening hours

  • Expected sales and average transaction values

This information helps us understand your business activity, verify legitimacy, and comply with regulations against money laundering and financial crime. Your estimates are not binding, but they give us important context to keep transactions safe and secure.

Step 4. Connect your bank account for payouts

To enable payouts, you must connect a business bank account. You can do this in three ways:

  1. Automatic connection: Choose your bank from the list and verify with your e-legitimation provide (such as BankID). This is fast, secure, and immediately ready for payouts.

  2. Manual connection: Enter your account details manually and upload a bank statement or screenshot from your online banking to confirm ownership. This option takes a little longer but works equally well.

  3. Add details later: You can complete your application without adding bank details, but payouts will not be possible until the account is provided and verified.

Step 5. Sign and submit your application

Once all required fields are completed, you can submit the application with one click. You will receive confirmation that it has been received.

Our team will review your submission as quickly as possible. If additional information is needed, we will contact you directly. When your application is approved, you will receive instructions on how to begin accepting payments through Surfboard Payments.
